'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' Trailer Rocks Out
If this involves the "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" trailer, I simply wish the manufacturers from the film could have been more honest upfront. They inform us that they are will make a follow-as much as the "G.I. Joe: An Upswing of Cobra," the Stephen Sommers-ification from the beloved figures and television show. They are saying Sommers has gone out and Dwayne Manley is within. Plus, you will see Bruce Willis. That's all fine and dandy, but nothing worth punching a wall in celebration. However the "Retaliation" trailer hits. Not used to anybody mention Cobra flags flying within the Whitened House. Nobody cared to see us it appears like Channing Tatum will bite the dust within the first a quarter-hour. And That I know for certain that nobody told us there will be a ninja fight along the side of a mountain, if they'd, all of us could have been a lot more excited. Not a chance, it works out that "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" could really be considered a really awesome movie, as we are now discovering using the trailer release. For that fans who fretted within the Sommers version, director Jon M. Chu has apparently fixed a lot of that which was wrong using the first movie. Among the largest and many ironic compliments compensated towards the trailer across movie blogs is this fact really appears like a "G.I. Joe" movie, the type that performed on Saturday morning that broadcast PSAs after. In short, it appears totally badass. What have you think about the "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" trailer? Muppets Song/Dance Sequence: Can Jason Segel Sing and Dance?
Of course The Muppets begins with a happy-clappy street symphony that looks like an outtake from Bjork’s “It’s Oh So Quiet.” It’s The Muppets, dammit! Perkiness on tap, puppetry on parade. Here, in this opening scene from the new movie, Jason Segel and his Muppet brother Walter don matching suits and sing about lovin’ life. Because they do. Next, I need Miss Piggy to writhe on the back of a flatbed truck to the tune of Bjork’s “Big Time Sensuality.” Something about Miss Piggy demands electronic beats and black-and-white cinematography. Here’s the full version of that song, “Life’s a Happy Song.” Now, do you have the whole wide world in the palm of your hand? ‘The Muppets’ Song and Opening Scene [HuffPost]

Gervais, HFPA informally talk Globes
Ricky Gervais and the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. have buried the hatchet -- the question now becomes, did they sink it deep enough to bring him back to the Golden Globes? Though some HFPA members condemned Gervais for taking shots at notables in the Beverly Hilton audience back in January, the two sides have begun talking informally about a third straight stint as host of the telecast on NBC. While Gervais said late last month that there was no truth to reports that he was being asked back, the rumor mill began churning again Thursday, when the NY Post reported that the comedian was spotted dining in Paris with HFPA president Aida Takla O'Reilly and NBC's head of specials Doug Vaughan. Gervais later tweeted a link to the story, saying: "Ooooooh! The plot thickens ..." Though sources stress that no offer has been made, people close to the HFPA say the org emphatically believes Gervais will return for the Jan. 15 kudocast, and that working out details is a mere formality. Reps for NBC and the HFPA declined comment. Gervais' schtick was tame enough in 2010, but following this year's show, then-HFPA president Philip Berk said the comedian's withering humor "crossed the line." Others criticized the comedian for barbs such as calling Bruce Willis "Ashton Kutcher's father" and introducing Robert Downey Jr. as "better known for his stays at the Betty Ford Clinic and the L.A. County Jail." This isn't the first time this year Gervais' name has come up for the Globes. In February, he tweeted that he'd been offered the job, though the HFPA firmly denied it at the time: "Nice try, Ricky," Berk said in a statement. Then in September, Gervais said he was thinking of having his own no-holds-barred webcast to run during the show. Josh Dickey and Andrew Wallenstein contributed to this report. In Honor of 'Tower Heist,' the 6 Best Movie Heists
Last night, I received an urgent message from my editors: "With 'Tower Heist' coming out on Friday, you should write a piece on movie heists." "Sure," I replied. Now, I've been told that this topic has been written about numerous times -- which is surprising. Just like with Best Movie Baseballs, I don't quite understand why it's so popular; it seems very specific, and I can't imagine that there's a large audience for such a thing. Alas, I'm not going to disregard a direct order from a superior. Here's a list of Moviefone's six favorite times that a movie has been stolen in a heist! [Ed. note: We meant "heist movies"] 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' A work print of 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' leaked online on March 31, 2009, almost a month before it was released into theaters. Since the film was made readily available on the Internet for free, it doesn't appear that much money, if any, was ever made from this heist. Which seems to defeat the purpose of a heist. 'The Avengers' Earlier this year, Samuel L. Jackson's script for 'The Avengers' disappeared. The scenes that were stolen were rewritten to foil this heist. 'Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace' An entire movie, 'Fanboys,' was made about stealing 'The Phantom Menace' so that a terminally ill friend could see the film before he died. Back in May of 1999, someone in Wisconsin actually did make off with one of the reels to the film -- man, I really hope they got the reel with the Darth Maul lightsaber fight, because, if not, that had to be one very disappointed heist organizer. 'Little Fockers' For some reason -- that for as long as I live will never make sense -- reels of the movie 'Little Fockers' were stolen from a car in the UK. Now that's a great double feature of heisted movies, 'The Phantom Menace' followed by 'Little Fockers.' Yikes. 'Snow Falling on Cedars' A criminal named M.F. Jones bootlegged this Ethan Hawke classic. Thankfully, he was caught and sentenced to ten years in prison. [Ed. note: Not only did you get the assignment wrong, this didn't even happen. This is fiction: It's a plot point of the movie 'Horrible Bosses.'] 'Cry, Cry, Again' Noted comedian Jerry Seinfeld is strong-armed into bootlegging by a misanthrope named Brody. [Ed. note: Not only is this also fiction, 'Cry, Cry, Again' isn't even a real movie.] You can contact Mike Ryan directly on Twitter Follow Moviefone on Twitter Like Moviefone on Facebook [Photos: Universal/Fox/Disney/Lucasfilm/Universal/New Line] RELATED

Stallone Prosecuted Over Expendables Script
Sylvester Stallone continues to be prosecuted with a author who alleges the hit movie The Expendables copies a script and short story he filed using the U.S. Copyright Office in 2006. Marcus Webb states then he distributed around Hollywood galleries a script about mercenaries employed to defeat a dictator named General Garza. Webb alleges within the suit filed in federal court in Manhattan the script for that Expendables is “strikingly similar and occasionally identical” to his The Cordoba Caper. Webb seeks unspecified damages along with a order from the court preventing further violation by Stallone, his credited co-author David Callaham, Millennium/NuImage Films and Lionsgate. Expendables 2 is slated to spread out August 17, 2012. Stallone and Millennium/NuImage reps rejected comment, Reuters stated. Lionsgate couldn't be arrived at.

Ben Stiller Ascends The Mountain
Directing a literary horror storyNo, he hasn't taken over At The Mountains Of Madness from Guillermo Del Toro: The Mountain is a different kind of horror project and Fox has just picked it up for Ben Stiller to direct. It's a spec script by Helen Childress, a blast from Stiller's past, since she wrote Reality Bites, which he directed in 1994. The Mountain is described by Deadline as "a sophisticated horror premise in the vein of Rosemary's Baby". Very strangely, it's apparently based to some extent on Edith Wharton's 1917 novel Summer, which in no way, shape or form would seem a likely basis for a scary movie.Wharton's book is about Charity, making a rather more respectable living than her prostitute mother as a small-town librarian in New England. But her world is turned upside down when she starts an affair with architect Lucius Harney, who's engaged to a society girl. Charity gets pregnant, and flirts with the idea of returning to the poverty-stricken mountain community of her roots to follow in her mother's footsteps, until her protector Lawyer Royall steps in and marries her. The book shares many of Wharton's themes (women's place in early American society; sexual awakening and peer disapproval) with later works like The Age Of Innocence and The House Of Mirth, and has several plot points in common with Ethan Frome. It definitely isn't the story of "a young woman who struggles to confront her destiny after stumbling upon a mysterious object that forces her to examine the secrets of her past", although there is a brooch that serves a significant purpose. So quite what's going on here is unclear. Some sources are suggesting that Childress' script is somehow a sequel to Summer, while others assume it's just a very loose reworking of the book, or an entirely new story that for some reason uses Wharton's characters. When we know more, we'll tell you. The Mountain is some way off yet, since it's still at the development stage. In the meantime, Stiller and Childress are also collaborating on an adaptation of Ezra Jack Keats' 1960s kids' picture book The Snowy Day, and Stiller's also juggling The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, a David O Selznick biopic, Neighbourhood Watch and, believe it or not, Rentaghost.Have a read of Summer at Project Gutenberg, and tell us how frightening you think it is.

Amazing Race's Kaylani and Lisa: We're Shocked Marcus Forgot the Answer
Kaylani and Lisa For once, having a cab caused a downfall on The Amazing Race. Vegas showgirls Kaylani Paliotta and Lisa Tilley lost valuable time when they had to settle their cab fare before checking into the Pit Stop at Indonesia's Borobudur Temple, ultimately in last place. "When we were driving up there, we kept telling each other, 'We're going to pay our cab,'" Tilley tells TVGuide.com. "But for whatever reason, once we actually got there, we were in such a rush to get started that we just had him wait and got out." Still, while their race ended early, they're happy to have raced at all after Paliotta lost her passport en route to LAX in the first leg - only to have Twitter come to the rescue.Amazing Race's Ron and Bill: We couldn't recover from two bad cabbiesHow far behind Liz and Marie were you?Kaylani: We were probably like 10 minutes after. We knew [we were last] when we left the temple ... because we had to pay our cab fare and [Marcus and Amani] didn't.What happened during that? It looked like you paid your cab before the twins did. Lisa: We didn't know that the twins got lost, but when we were walking out [to pay our cab], we actually saw the twins walking back in, so they definitely paid their cab before us. I know it didn't seem like that on the show ... so we kind of knew they were ahead of us.Kaylani: It didn't take long to find the cab, but it was a long walk because you had to walk from the temple down the stairs and you had to keep walking on the temple grounds. You weren't allowed to run at all. It was frustrating because we got there third and were one of the last teams to finish. I would say we would say we were there for three hours at least. Do you regret having your cabbie wait for you?Lisa: We knew right away: "Ugh, we should've paid our cab." When you're racing, your brain is going a thousand miles an hour and it was just a slip-up. And it definitely would've made a difference if we had paid because we would've checked in right after Marcus and Amani or just before them. So you live and learn. You guys arrived with the twins. Why didn't you work together?Lisa: You didn't see it, but at the top of the temple, we read the clue, and [Marie] and I started counting. When we had gotten down to the next level, I heard her skip a number. She went like, "10, 12, 13..." And I was like, "Oh my God! This girl just skipped 11!" [Laughs] So I ended up ditching her. She went one way and I went the other way. I was like, "She can't even count!" What really upsets me is that at one point, Tommy had come up to me and asked me what number I was on. But I was so focused on counting that I didn't think to stop and talk to him, so I kept going. That's one of my biggest regrets. And he told Amani and Marcus the answer later.Lisa: I know! Marcus didn't tell me about that, but he knew the gist of it. I didn't know what floor you were supposed to be on because you actually only had to count the hand statues on one out of the seven levels. We were all counting the statues on every level. It was in the clue, but you still had to ask someone where the third gallery was. Kaylani: They referred to the levels as galleries. That was frustrating last night, seeing that Marcus knew the answer and he forgot it! ... I was shocked seeing that because they could've been done.Lisa: Yeah, I can't believe he forgot them. When I finally teamed up with him, he knew he had to count the different hand positions, but for the life of him - once he finished one [position] and started counting the next one - he could not remember how many were with which hand. So once I knew what I had to do and was on the right floor, we were done in, like, 15 minutes.Amazing Race's Ethan and Jenna: We prefer SurvivorHe couldn't remember the numbers? Three of them were 17 and the other one was 18.Lisa: [Laughs] Um, well, Marcus always said that Amani was the brains of the team. And she was too tired to do it. He was like, "Normally, Amani would handle these types of challenges."Why didn't you team up with the other group?Lisa: I didn't see them. I never saw Jeremy and I never saw Ernie when I was up there. I also didn't trust them, either. ... It seemed like they figured it out really fast once they got together, but they were on the wrong track like I was in the beginning. We were less than 20 minutes behind all of them. When I teamed up with Marcus, our first guess was off by one - we thought it was 17 for all of them. So we had to count them again and realized one of them was 18. So we could've totally beaten [the other teams].Is the elimination any easier to swallow knowing that you could've been out in the first episode?Lisa: [Laughs] Yeah, I was so happy to have made it that far. When we were in L.A., I thought it was over. I just kept thinking how much it sucked and what a bummer, so just to make it out of the country, I was happy.Could you believe it all unfolded like it did? And that Twitter saved you? Some fans think there was producer intervention and it was staged.Kaylani: It all happened! It was just amazing how social media met up with something like that. I mean, for Ryan [Storms, who found the passport] to think about Twittering -it was actually genius. I would've never thought to go on Twitter to post that or to follow the Race from the Reality Fan Forum. He was very, very sweet about making sure he brought the passport to us. I've gotten to speak with him and thank him for all his help. Apparently he was just going to mail it to me the next day! [Laughs] [The fan who tweeted back to him] was on the phone with him and was like, "You don't understand! You have to drop this off at LAX!" That was the sweetest thing. You don't find too often, especially nowadays, people who are kind to each other. What were you doing at the airport before he came?Kaylani: We were running around with our heads cut off!Lisa: Yeah. You didn't see it, but we were going online, putting a dollar into the computer, Googling "What to do when you lose your passport?" We went to customs and pretty much everything was like, "Nothing until Monday morning when the office opens."Kaylani: We went back to the car and searched the entire car again. We did get a chance to go back to the gas station, which you saw, but that was within five minutes of leaving the gas station. At first, I was like, "It's gone." But we thought maybe one of the other teams found it and brought it to the airport because we saw other teams pull in there after us for directions. But no one had it at the airport.Amazing Race's Phil Keoghan: We have the most competitive cast yetWhat are you up to now?Lisa: I've been taking the whole summer off and visiting places. I have one last class to finish for school, so in December I'll have my degree. And then I'm just hoping to ... move on to the next great adventure.Kaylani: I am actually working on producing a couple of shows with my boyfriend, like travel shows. I'm spending a lot of time with my little girl. She had a hard time watching last night. She just burst into tears. I didn't realize it was going to affect her like that to see her cry. She was just like, "Mom! Why are you not on the Race?!" ... We're moving to L.A. right now so I can spend some time with my best friend Rachel [from Big Brother].Too bad you guys couldn't both win your shows in the same year.Kaylani: I know! We were both hoping that!
Joel Schumacher Tells Movieline About the Time He Wrote The Wiz
This week brings Trespass, the latest film from Joel Schumacher. The occasion prompted the opportunity for Movieline to have a candid, wide-ranging chat with the veteran filmmaker about his career, his critics and his humble origins as a costume designer in the 1970s. And despite his glossy new thriller starring Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman, one subject demanded even more attention: The Wiz, the Motown musical directed by Sidney Lumet and written, in his brief, scrappy scribe-for-hire days, by Schumacher. I’ll have more with Schumacher later this week, but his recollection of the road leading to the legendary Bad Movie We Love — and the relationships it yielded, from composer Quincy Jones to co-star Michael Jackson, on several of whose videos Schumacher said he later passed on directing — is just, well, priceless. “I got it because my first two scripts that I sold and that got made were Sparkle, which is about three African-American girls in Harlem who become stars — sort of a precursor to Dreamgirls — and Car Wash. So I was kind of the black writer to some people,” Schumacher chuckled. “Sidney Lumet was a social friend of mine, and he asked to write the screenplay for The Wiz. I saw the play, and it was so magical that I didn’t think I could do anything with it at all. I said no. And everybody in Hollywood that I knew as friends or who were in the business said, ‘Are you insane? You’re not going to do a huge musical with Sidney Lumet?’ And I was so impressionable then that I thought there must be something wrong with me. “So I got on a plane to go to NY to meet with Sidney, and when I got off the plane, Sidney said, ‘I have great news for you: Diana Ross is going to play Dorothy.’ And I played catch-up from then on, because my first conversation with Sidney was that we were going to go all over the United States and find a girl who was the appropriate age for The Wizard of Oz. And the concept of Oz being Manhattan… You know, Sidney was such a NYer, and NY was one of the stars of the movie. Well, I hadn’t planned on any of that, nor was the play like that at all. I played catch-up the rest of the time, and I tried to roll with the punches the best I could. But, you know: Dorothy was suddenly 39 years old and a spinster in Harlem. “I think everybody worked their asses off,” he continued. “The movie is so loaded with talent. I think that it was historic; I don’t think any African-American film had been made at that budget, and I think, at the time, Sidney was the only one who could have made that happen. And I was working with Lena Horne and Diana Ross and Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson when he was 17. Nipsey Russell. All the great people who are in that movie! Ted Ross, who played the lion. Mabel King. I was working with brilliant and talented people. The great Ozzie [Oswald] Morris, a very, very legendary cinematographer. It was quite an experience. “Remember, I’m coming from Car Wash, which is a day in the life of a car wash and was made for $750,000. No one knew that Car Wash was going to be Car Wash — certainly not me. In fact, one of the big moguls in Hollywood came to me and said, ‘What is this movie you’ve written?’ And I told him, and he said, ‘Joel, people do not go to the movies to see black people washing cars. People go to the movies to see…’ I can remember, he sort of put his hands up and blocked the words in front his face: ‘Lawrence. Of. Arabia. Gone. With. The. Wind. They do not come to see black people washing cars.’ And I remember when I left, it was night. I had a little Karmann Ghia convertible, and I never could figure out how to put the top up. And I literally had a white-knuckle ride home thinking, ‘He’s a billionaire. He’s one of the smartest people I know. Oh my God. I am making a movie about black people washing cars!’” Schumacher laughed. “And then I thought, ‘But I think it’s pretty good and pretty funny!’ So we had the last laugh, obviously. “I never thought I totally got my ass in the seat because the direction of it had changed so much. But the movie is so beloved, especially in the African-American community. Everyone grew up on it. Everybody’s kids love it. And I think that’s true of some of the Caucasian community, too. I mean, it’s quite a fascinating film visually, and it does have Michael Jackson at that age, which will be forever preserved, and Lena Horne, who nobody may ever know of or see any other way. I’m still friends with Quincy Jones to this day. Michael and I stayed in contact for many years. He was always trying to get me to do a music video or put him in a movie.” Alas, Schumacher and Jackson never collaborated. “‘Scream’ was the last video I turned down with him,” the filmmaker said, explaining that he was already committed to a range of projects during a particularly prolific period that yielded his two Batman movies and his hit John Grisham adaptations The Client and A Time to Kill. “That was the last conversation I think we had together; it was right around the time of ‘Scream.’ And if you’d met Michael when I knew Michael, you’d never have believed that he could have done anything to his face or anything. He was such a beautiful, brilliant talent. Well, he was always a brilliant talent. But it would have been impossible to know that there were demons lurking in that shy, exquisitely mannered, young, beautiful boy. The minute Sidney yelled, ‘Action,’ it was like, ‘Oh my God. Look at this child.’” Now you know. There’s more where this came from, too; please do check out the rest of Movieline’s chat with Joel Schumacher later this week.

Mark Millar talks Kick-Ass 2
Mark Millar remains speaking in regards to the follow-up to Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass plus it appears like you will discover still a few hurdles to conquer before it might start production."The main one factor in regards to the first movie could it be kind of skyrocketed our careers. People forget, however it would be a $28m indie movie created within the Uk. It made $100m at movie theaters and built exactly the same again plus much more on DVD and Blu-ray but got amazing reviews. So everybody involved out of the blue got hired for just about any million something more important, and re-developing this rock band again might be impossible," he told the La Occasions.Surely the cast might be up for just about any return in Kick-Ass 2?"Hopefully, we could take advantage of the identical stars presuming we execute a follow-up, but getting Matthew to direct or Jane to produce a film as of this budget is quite hard since they're celebs now and they have projects that goes for them,In . Millar mentioned."There's however a window because the stars are stated to stay in secondary school so when this showed up in this area after 2013, for example, that window may have closed."Precisely how does he see things evolving?"I'd imagine, in such a circumstance soon, that Matthew will produce and possibly co-write, like George Lucas did using the Wild Bunch, and rehearse a brand new director."Just when TF is giving up all hope of seeing Kick-Ass 2 showed up at existence, Millar throws us a lifeline: "I clearly find out more than I am in a position to say, however think people is going to be pretty happy with the conversations we've been getting."Phew!

Hammond: Will Oscars New Rules Actually Increase The Campaign Frenzy?
Today the Academy giveth and taketh away. The new Academy Award campaign regulations announced earlier are clearly a mixed bag, significantlyrelaxing some long-standing rules and creating a good deal of freedom pre-nominations while really tightening and restricting activities by nominees and studios post-noms. Essentially what the new regulations do is try to encourage members to see films the way they are meant to be seen, in a theatrical setting. To that end Oscar consultants can now freely invite members to Q&A screenings andin the pre-nomination period, evenholdfood and cocktailreceptions beforeor after. It’s almost like the Academy realizes members need an incentive to get out of the house and the lazy habit of watching contenders on screeners. Previously, as noted in the Acad’s press release, members were not permitted to attend screenings that had filmmaker Q&As and/or receptions attached. Consultants got around this by inviting guild members who also happened to hold an Academy card (clever consultants). Now, no problem, althoughafter the noms are out, members can only go to screenings and Q&As, notreceptions. Whether this will open the floodgates and have the desired effect of encouraging members to get their butts in those theater seats is anyone’s guess since Acad members who wanted to go to Q&As and receptions went anyway with their guild cards. Still, it isa nice admission by the Acadthat their previous rules had gone too far. I am told by one member of the Academy’s PR committee that this all came up due to a Deadline article I posted January 7 about the Oscar party circuit. “I think it’s what we’ve all been talking about,” said one studio consultant. “The important thing is to get members to see the movies, preferably on the big screen. Rules are one thing but it’s nice to see the Academy realizing they can sometimes be to the detriment of the goal we are all trying to achieve. It’s clearly a new era at the Academy with Dawn Hudson.” The new regs also seemingly offer no restrictions on all those campaign “events,” lunches and parties hosted by members for specific contenders that were so rampant last season. That is, before January 24 and the announcement of nominations. After that period the Acad promises to beat nominees and their campaign staff with a stick (and stiffer penalties too) if they appear at any non-screening event. This would include the numerous lunches usually hosted by another member in honor of a nominee or private parties like those held last year for nominees The Fighter, The King’s Speech and others. Now any of these parties will have to take place before the Academy has officially announced their finalists so that that three-week period between noms and final ballots being due will be barren as far as this sort of activity goes. In other words, voters need tostuff their face and do all their schmoozingbefore January 24 (check with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for tips on this, Academy members). This will make all those Guild dinnersthat come after Oscar nominations a prime target for consultants to try and get as many members and nominees in the same room. They already do that, but you can expect it to intensify. The Cinema Audio Society awards are about to become a hot ticket. “No lunches or parties after nominations?” one incredulous consultant who organizes some of thoseasked me. “Well, that sure makes my job a lot easier!” Another player in the Oscargame who expected the Academy to get really tough this year was puzzled by today’s announcement. “It’s a real mixed bag.The Academymembership clearly doesn’t want to be policed but your article last year pointed out that the perception was thatsome of this campaigning was getting out of hand. Butin a way they are opening the floodgates by putting no similar restrictions on pre-nomination campaigning. And now we can go directly to members and we could never do that before. It plays into Harvey’s (Weinstein’s) hands. It will just encourage more campaigning pre-noms while then letting the Academy get clubby and official only afterwards.” The bottom line is this is a very long season. The three-week period between nominations and final ballot deadline is just a small part of it. The relaxation of rules before that period is a major step. And it is a smart one. After all how can you tell an Academy member they can’t be invited to a Q&A or reception with someone who isn’t even an official nominee yet? The Academy has found a middle ground by loosening some of its previous restrictions while trying to protect the dignity of its process once it officially begins with the actual nominations. It is the same sort of compromise they crafted in deciding to alter their best picture rule this year by allowing anywhere from 5 to 10 noms instead of a rigid set number. The interesting thing will be to see how these new rules affect the race after this year when, acccording to some Academy honchos to whom I recently spoke, there is a very real possibility the Oscars could move to thelast Sunday in January. “The date is available,” one top official told me. Let’s just get through this season first, OK?Watch X-Men: First Class Megavideo

Mel Gibson's Judah Maccabee Project: Bottom Feeding at the base Line (Opinion)
There's a particular exquisite narcissism that thinks it's not enough to basically dislike one's spouse, you might also need to win the allegiance from the children. Quite simply, to hate someone really completely, you have to expropriate what the hated person loves.our editor recommendsWhy Mel Gibson Went Forward Using the Judah Maccabee ProjectGibson's Maccabee Movie Latest Twist In Star's Tortured History With Jewish CommunityMel Gibson Assumes Judah Maccabee: Hollywood Will get Angry OnlineMel Gibson Describes His Judah Maccabee InterestWarner Bros. Backing Mel Gibson Movie About Jewish Icon Mel Gibson's numerous slurs against Jews can leave nobody uncertain that his anti-Semitism is deep and real. Yes, it's possible to be charming, funny, gifted but still anti-Semitic. His excuse which are more egregious factor he stated -- "I had been drunk" -- jogs my memory from the words of Polish author Stanislaw Lec: "Anti-Semitism and alcohol cannot exist together within the same bigot. Pour one out of, and also the other arrives." Many people get drunk without having to be grabbed through the delusion that certain or any other group accounts for all of the bad things on the planet. Racists and anti-Semites are individuals who drink and delude. Apparently it's not enough for Gibson to dislike Jews. He or she must also expropriate their heroes. Hence the absurdly ironic news that he's creating a movie about Judah Maccabee. It's not earth-breaking. Society won't crumble because Gibson has devised a different way to infuriate individuals whom he hates. Still, this guy who told The NYer the Jews run Hollywood along with a patrol officer the Jews start all of the wars has deputized themself to create a Hollywood movie concerning the one character within the Jewish tradition known mainly to be enthusiast. Next, without doubt, we'll learn about David Duke's plans for any biopic of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior. Exactly why is Warner Bros. involved with this lunatic foray? Apparently because money banishes any unease about indecency. The film, that we guarantee is going to be bloodstream-drenched and brash, can make money. Here's Hollywood at its most craven, bottom feeding at the base line. It's a sad but forced conclusion that there is nobody gifted concurrently with decision-making energy as well as an elementary feeling of recognition. The risk such outlandish projects is they lend a patina of authenticity as to the Gibson states. Now he's an expert -- an ersatz movie authority, but sometimes that's what passes within our culture -- on Jewish history. Obviously, if Jews really went Hollywood, Gibson would not get the opportunity to create a movie in regards to a Jewish hero. Becoming an accomplished artist doesn't need an outstanding moral character. Their email list of artists, even great artists, who have been miserable people is lengthy and dispiriting. We treasure their work because artistry goes beyond crankiness, paranoia or hate. However when a painter takes the item of his hate and selects that as the topic of his art, the only real fact is a disgusted dismissal. Let Mel Gibson make his movie. Just don't go. It's conspiring in obscenity to purchase a ticket. Stay at home for Hanukkah. Wolpe is definitely an author and rabbi at Sinai Temple, a Conservative Jewish congregation in West La. James Franco States He's Adapting Cormac McCarthy's 'Child of God'
At this time around, you've probably virtually quit wondering why James Franco does anything -- whether it is undertaking one half-assed job of hosting the Oscars, returning to 'General Hospital' or losing from his Broadway debut -- but you have to question about his next project, they introduced while marketing his documentary about Gus Van Sant. Franco expects to direct the apparently unfilmable tale from the killing necrophiliac, 'Child of God' by 'No Country For Old Men' author Cormac McCarthy. Within a Q&A within the Toronto Worldwide Film Festival for his 'Memories of Idaho' doc on Van Sant, Franco mentioned that his formerly introduced adaptation of McCarthy's 'Blood Meridian' is on hold, but he's moved his focus to another McCarthy novel, 'Child of God.' The 1973 novel is about a misfit in rural Tennessee whose unspeakable crimes are allegedly based on an not named historic figure, in line with the author. Just just in case you missed it, the Franco-directed facet of Sal Mineo ('Sal') just first demonstrated within the Venice Film Festival. More youthful crowd directed and starred in 'The Broken Tower,' about American poet Hart Crane. Franco also expects to direct a documentary about Kink.com and also the other about his time concerning the cleaning cleaning soap 'General Hospital,' they keeps returning to for reasons uknown. Happy 65th Birthday, Tommy Lee Jones! What's His Greatest Moment on Film?
Joan Rivers may not love Tommy Lee Jones, but as the Oscar-winning actor turns 65 today, we recall only his most lovable moments at the cinema. He debuted in Love Story, but the bulk of his career has been spent playing gritty figures, real-life men of intrigue and Will Smith’s crisply suited confidant. What’s his best performance to date? Like Paul Newman or Jack Lemmon before him, Tommy Lee Jones won an Oscar, but not for his best work. Does anyone ever rent The Fugitive and think, “Can’t wait to watch an Oscar-winning performance”? Jones and Harrison Ford play a suspenseful game of cat-and-mouse, but is that enough to warrant a statue? Over Amon Goeth? I think not. Let’s talk about more affecting work: Though there are certainly strong arguments for Lonesome Dove, JFK, In the Valley of Elah, and No Country for Old Men, I definitely love Tommy Lee Jones most in Coal Miner’s Daughter. Though Sissy Spacek delivers the powerhouse performance as Loretta Lynn, Jones is so believable and familiar as her husband Mooney. It’s also a great departure from the roles that would later define him. This simple exchange between the young couple is a work of art. What do y’all think is best? Be as critical as you want. Here’s what Tommy thinks of your opinions:

About That Time Paul Rudd Met President Obama
“He asked about my character in How Do You Know, and I told him I’m a guy who gets into some hot water, and though his intentions are good he gets indicted by the government for possible violations. And Obama says, ‘Oh, so you’re playing a congressman.’ And I was like, ‘No, actually I work for my dad in this corporation.’ I’m trying to explain, and Obama interrupts me and says, ‘It was a joke.’ I just felt so stupid. Of course it was a joke, and it’s actually a pretty good one. I’m normally pretty good at catching them. If you’re not the fucking President of the United States, I can usually identify when you’re joking.” Now you know. [Playboy]

Toronto market's for mavens
Photos, for example "Burning Guy," need to be cleverly looked nowadays.
Using the Toronto Film Festival kicking into high gear, retailers are operating among much more difficult turf than recently.InchUnderstanding from the purchasers may be the new game," notes Andy Billings, producer of Aussie drama "Burning Guy," which in fact had its world premiere Saturday evening in the festival.Billings first contacted festival developers in April with "Burning Guy," dedicated to an British chef, described by Matthew Goode, who's coping with complicated family issues. He'd wished a TIFF slot would create the correct quantity of buzz for any purchase when the pic, that CAA is repping domestic privileges, was tested."Five several weeks later, you realize lots of work went into setting it up ready," he stated. But simply because many new purchasers also represent new distribution platforms does not mean they are ingenues, Billings stated."So my task like a producer would be to deliver films towards the market it does not know yet it wants," Billings added. "It needs to actually cover something which moviegoers haven't seen before -- so basically, you are developing a brand-new brand for that buyer."Initially, it might appear that retailers possess the upper hands, with the existence of new purchasers -- Open Road, Relativity, FilmDistrict, CBS Films -- together with the typical variety of purchasers for example Fox Searchlight, the Weinstein Co., Focus, The new sony Pictures Classics, Lionsgate and Summit at the fest. Add new avenues of exploitation via digital and also the picture gets to be more complicated for retailers. The Weinstein Co. introduced a push in to the digital space 2 days prior to the festival began: Tom Quinn and Jason Janego can create a brand new TWC label to create new films along with other niche entertainment to audiences concurrently across multiple digital and traditional platforms. "It's part-and-parcel for retailers to stay in digital realm, that is altering on an hourly basis,Inch notes veteran professional Mark Gill, who spent a long time using the Weinsteins at Miramax and was lately installed as leader of Millennium Films."If you are selling, it takes a lot more study of who desires what," he notes. "There's a lot stratification one of the purchasers, so determining what all of them wants could be elusive since everybody has their niche. There is no such factor like a film that may mix to all of the purchasers."Kevin Kasha, professional Vice president of worldwide purchases and co-productions for Anchor Bay Entertainment, concurs. Anchor Bay, that has handled 70 game titles in 3 years, thinks that retailers are facing an even more complex task."The company was previously about creating $ 1, and today it comes down to making 10 dimes due to all types of digital platforms," Kasha notes. "It was once, 'Do we love to the film or don't we love to it?' We now have to understand who's it for."Anchor Bay designed a first-day buy from the U.S. privileges to "13," Gela Babluani's remake of his 2005 thriller "13 Tzameti." Stars include Mike Riley, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Ray Winstone, Alexander Skarsgard, Michael Shannon, Ben Gazzara, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mickey Rourke and Jason Statham."I love to believe that we are prudently aggressive since you need to be careful by what we call festival helium -- meaning getting scratchy fingers like a buyer," Kasha stated. "You need to be ready for telephone calls from purchasers at 3 a.m. asking, 'Are you in or are you currently out?'"Bill Bromley, chief purchases officer for Image Entertainment, has reduced his purchasing recently as his label has scaly back releases to pay attention to more identifiable game titles.
